LAUR is an Oakland-based interdimensional sculptural movement artist working with the queer, mixed, brown community to create new spaces for visual manifestation and regenerative expression. Their practice and process are grounded in a hybridized embodiment of knowledge that merges dance, intuitive healing, visual art, and fashion. In synthesizing these realms, they aim to expand the possibilities of creative process//offering by opening up new channels of communication through intersecting art forms, timelines, histories and knowings. In this, they call for an intersectional approach that holds technical, physical, intellectual, cultural, and spiritual understandings in equal value, respect and possibility. The intention of this approach is to conjure work that serves as an inquiry space for individual and collective discovering, releasing, confronting, connecting, and potential healing. This process often involves creative collaboration with other artists in the community whose specific presence is needed to help develop and shape the complexity and depth of the work in alignment with its generative manifestation. Their work aims to break the separatism of the lineal existence, functioning as a liberation movement to visibilize those whose intersectional and multiple existence often renders them misread or overlooked in their life and work within the context of current and historical power structures.
